Currently at the IMF, I serve as the Chief of Internal Communications, where I manage staff engagement and corporate internal communications. I was also Deputy Chief of Public affairs, where I focused on building relationships with civil society, parliamentarians, labor unions, and think tanks, as well as overseeing the IMF’s corporate social responsibility program (IMF Giving Together).
I started at the IMF in July 2001, working as an Advisor at the Executive Board of the IMF. I participated in policy deliberations and overall policy formulation at the IMF. I also worked as an Economist in the Middle East region and in Africa, working on a range of countries (middle and low income, fragile, and small states). My role included systematically evaluating economic developments and policies, formulating and assessing structural reforms (privatisation, petroleum price reforms, tax reform, financial sector reforms, etc.), and maintaining contacts with Fund counterparts, external donors, and other organizations.
My experience at the IMF then led me to work on IMF strategy, policy, and review of operations. I have a strong understanding of IMF policies and policy making and a diverse experience and analytical skills in cross-country issues. I helped draw IMF policies on low-income countries (revamping the policy architecture and drawing guidance to IMF staff), economic vulnerabilities, and policies for fragile states.
Prior to the IMF, I taught economics at the University of Durham to undergraduate students (1999). I also worked as an Economist at the Central Bank of Jordan (1995).
